For over 100 years, the Irma has been a symbol of neighborliness and good cheer where people could relax and be themselves. Everyone from Colonel Cody, to princes and potentates, Indian chiefs and cowboys “came as they were” to the Irma.

The hotel was opened to the public on November 1, 1902. A grand opening celebration followed on November 18 (see original invitation below). Buffalo Bill spent $80,000 in 1902 dollars on construction costs. He named the hotel for his youngest daughter Irma, born February 9, 1886.

The Cody Nite Rodeo started in 1938 and is the longest running and the only nightly rodeo (June-August) in the world. Mo Betta Rodeo Company and Tate family have been producing the nightly rodeo for over 18 years and continue to make history. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. with rodeo action kicking off at 8:00 p.m. All seating is general admission within two sections, but we do suggest you purchase tickets in advance online. Be sure to arrive early and have your picture taken on our live rodeo bull "Mongo", ride the mechanical bull, get your face painted by the rodeo clowns, learn to rope like the cowboys & cowgirls, and visit our Cody Nite Rodeo store.

Take a Step Back in Time & Experience One of the Best Hidden Treasures in Wyoming! Visitors of all ages love climbing aboard the caboose, exploring the homesteader cabins, and learning about the lives of the American West homesteaders/settlers. The town of Powell became the home to one of the first and last Bureau of Reclamation Project in the United States, known as the Shoshone Reclamation Project of 1904, a federally funded irrigation and homesteading project in the Rocky Mountain West. Through our collection of artifacts, historic buildings, and photographs, the Homesteader Museum embodies the rugged homesteading life of the early Big Horn Basin pioneer. As a nonprofit museum, we use our resources to preserve the livelihood of homesteaders and their families, history of the town of Powell, and the garden spot of Wyoming.

Located in Meeteetse, Wyoming, the Meeteetse Museums (composed of the Charles Belden Museum of Western Photography, the Meeteetse Museum, and the First National Bank Museum) offer a fascinating glimpse into the rich cultural and natural history of the area. Explore the unique exhibits that showcase the town's rich cowboy and ranching heritage, including photographer Charles Belden, adventurer Carl Dunrud, and the Meeteetse Mercantile. The Museums also provide insights into the area's wildlife and natural wonders, with exhibits on bears Big Joe and Little Wahb, and the endangered blackfooted ferret. Whether you're a history enthusiast or nature lover, the Meeteetse Museums promise an unforgettable experience for all.

Enjoy a self-guided tour along the boardwalk through Old Trail Town, an open air museum of 28 historical buildings (dating from 1879 to 1901) moved to this site from Wyoming and Montana. You are able to walk in to many of the buildings including the River Saloon and the Hole in the Wall cabin frequented by Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, and their gang. Visit Old Trail Town's cemetery where Jeremiah "Liver Eatin'" Johnston is buried. The Museum of the Old West showcases displays of Western and Native American memorabilia. Old Trail Town's main street is filled with 1800s wagons and the wagon barn houses many more. Old Trail Town is the largest collection of its kind in Wyoming. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 educational facility dedicated to the preservation of Wyoming history.
